CTD President Opens Special Tour to NYC this October
I’d like to extend a personal invitation on behalf of a couple of friends of mine, Don & Pat Bardonner from Muskego, Wisconsin. Don & Pat have asked Country Travel DISCOVERIES to arrange a 5 day, 4 night tour of New York City for this October 21-26. They’ve arranged this trip for members of their church and, because those members will take up just about half of the motorcoach, are graciously allowing us to open up the remaining 20 spaces to our audience.
The trip is highlighted by visits to two Broadway shows and the World Trade Center Memorial, including the just-opened World Trade Center Museum—a very moving experience. But, there’s much more to this program that make this such a special way to visit the Big Apple...
Tour Coordinator Travelogue
Country Travel DISCOVERIES' Tour Coordinator Eva Endlich, our international discoveries expert, traveled in Europe for two weeks in May. As time from her busy work schedule allowed, she shared her experience doing the "dry lab" for the Germany, Switzerland & Austria discovery, which will run Sep 9-20 in 2014.
A "dry lab" is a specific tool our tour coordinators use to personally walk through a planned itinerary, and ensure that it will run smoothly to give our customers the best possible travel experience. As they do this, they make frequent notes and adjustments, send messages back to colleagues at the office, and occasionally blog and photograph the experience.
We've posted short notes from Eva's trip here on this blog, and some of the fun pictures that this shutterbug sent home.
1. The Largest Freshwater Lake in the World
Beautiful, powerful Lake Superior is awesome! So big it looks and feels like an ocean, this greatest of the Great Lakes stretches 350 miles…contains 3 quadrillion gallons of water…and has an average depth of nearly 500 feet. The Country Travel DISCOVERIES tour route along Lake Superior’s Minnesota and Wisconsin shores is super scenic and so rich in history. Learning about early French and English fur trade and growth of the area’s iron ore, lumber and fishing industries adds to the eye-opening experience.

Highlights from America's Frontier Parks
Even though seasoned DISCOVERIES Director Donna Hackler has been to Yellowstone National Park eight times and the Black Hills over eighteen times, one place in the park takes her breath away every time she’s there: Artist Point.
To get to this iconic spot in Yellowstone, travelers must leave the crowds around Old Faithful and walk along the rim of a canyon. As they walk, wildlife rustles in the woods nearby.
Southwest Adventure Highlights from Discovery Director Phil Pesch
The American West abounds with dazzling natural beauty. Perhaps one of the most iconic sites in this stunning landscape is the Grand Canyon. Over a mile deep, more than 200 river miles long, and at least ten miles wide in the narrower sections, the Grand Canyon is a not-to-be-missed part of any western journey.
“You can see a hundred pictures of the Grand Canyon, see it in dozens of movies, and that still won’t give you a sense of the sheer scale or beauty of it,” says Phil Pesch, DISCOVERIES Director for the last seven years.
