1. The Largest Freshwater Lake in the World
Beautiful, powerful Lake Superior is awesome! So big it looks and feels like an ocean, this greatest of the Great Lakes stretches 350 miles…contains 3 quadrillion gallons of water…and has an average depth of nearly 500 feet. The Country Travel DISCOVERIES tour route along Lake Superior’s Minnesota and Wisconsin shores is super scenic and so rich in history. Learning about early French and English fur trade and growth of the area’s iron ore, lumber and fishing industries adds to the eye-opening experience.
Journey to the Last Frontier...for Less
Country Travel DISCOVERIES is pleased to announce we've extended our early-bird deal for Alaska & the Yukon Discovery, with three planned departures open for summer 2014. Enjoy savings of up to $400.00 per couple ($200.00 per person) when making a reservation before May 15, 2014.
As Operations Director Nan Delwiche writes in an article on our blog: "[Alaska & the Yukon] can move you and create memories to last all of your days. The mountains are among the most spectacular sights you’ll ever see, anywhere. You’ll never forget the mighty glaciers, amazing wildlife, and the friendly, hardy people who call this rugged land 'home'."
Southwest Adventure Highlights from Discovery Director Phil Pesch
The American West abounds with dazzling natural beauty. Perhaps one of the most iconic sites in this stunning landscape is the Grand Canyon. Over a mile deep, more than 200 river miles long, and at least ten miles wide in the narrower sections, the Grand Canyon is a not-to-be-missed part of any western journey.
“You can see a hundred pictures of the Grand Canyon, see it in dozens of movies, and that still won’t give you a sense of the sheer scale or beauty of it,” says Phil Pesch, DISCOVERIES Director for the last seven years.
Popular Heartland Tours Sold Out; New Dates Added
The new dates are August 5-11 and September 11-17, the latter allowing back-to-back scheduling with Our Iowa...and Yours, Too!, an also-popular tour of the eastern part of the state.
Presented in conjunction with Our Iowa Magazine, both tours spotlight diverse, unique aspects of the 29th state, carefully selected with input from the publication's highly knowledgeable editorial staff.

Two September Dates Added
Ranging from bustling Portland to charming Newport, from lovely Multnomah Falls to breathtaking Crater Lake, the all-new Pacific northwest adventure has been a popular addition to CTD's line-up in 2014. Its original September 8-14 departure sold out quickly, followed by the August 25-31 departure.

We love working with groups of all sizes, whether providing special discounts for groups as small as 5-to-9, or hand-crafting a customized tour tailored to the needs of a larger private group or organization. After many decades in the business, we’ve helped travel group leaders, both amateur and professional, fill and run successful tours for their organizations.
Here are some tips for success.
Featured Travelogue by Bridget McMahon
Just eight weeks into my new position as the Administrative Coordinator with Country Travel DISCOVERIES, I was excited to go on my first discovery with the travel group visiting Coastal Carolina & the Georgia Shores (May 5-11, 2013). I took part as a regular traveler, and wrote about my experiences here every day of the trip. I really enjoyed meeting new people, learning more about the coastal Carolina and Georgia shores regions, and just having a relaxing and good time!
